March 8 is International Women's Day. The day has been celebrated since the early 1900s, and in 1975, the International Year of Women, the United Nations confirmed the celebration of the day. In October of the same year, 90 % of Icelandic women walked out of their jobs and homes and went on strike for their rights. For this reason, today Iceland is one of the best places to be a woman.
Tampere Film Festival wants to celebrate International Women's Day by screening the film The Day Iceland Stood Still, which tells the story of the events in Iceland in 1975.
