Oscar® Eligibility for Best Fiction Award at the Tampere Film Festival

Winners of the Tampere Film Festival will now have even better chances of becoming nominees for the Academy Awards® in the United States. Starting from the 2025 festival, the winner of the Best Fiction award in the International Competition will also be eligible for the Oscar® nomination without the standard theatrical run, provided that the film otherwise complies with the Academy’s rules.

Other awards from the Tampere Film Festival that qualify for Oscar® nominations include the Grand Prix and the Best Documentary of the International Competition, and the Main Prize for the National Competition under 30 minutes. The Academy is responsible for the final selection of nominees.
