How do I get from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Tampere?
- There is an uninterrupted train connection from the airport to Tikkurila, where you have to change trains to Tampere. On the VR website, mark Helsinki Airport as your location of departure and Tampere as your destination, and you will be provided with all necessary tickets and stop information for the full journey in one go. The train ride from Helsinki to Tampere takes approx. 1,5–2 hours, depending on the type of the train line.
- Please note that the ticket prices go up if you’re buying the tickets on the day you are traveling. The prices can be anything from 8 € to 30 €, so to save money, we strongly recommend you buy the train tickets in advance.
- Purchasing the train tickets can be done through the VR website or the VR app available for smart phones.
- There are also buses from the airport to Tampere. You can find the current timetables on Matkahuolto‘s website. Tickets can be purchased either on Matkahuolto’s website or directly from the driver on the bus.
Do I need to use public transportation when moving around Tampere during the festival?
- We strongly recommend walking as the first transportation alternative. The distances aren’t long and Tampere is a very walkable city, so if you are able, walking is the most convenient choice.
- The second recommended alternative is public transportation. There are multiple bus and tram lines in Tampere. More information on public transportation routes can be found on Nysse’s website.
- The trams and buses use the same ticket system. Please note that Tampere’s public transportation systems don’t accept cash as payment. You can pay for your ride with contactless card payment, or get your ticket through the Nysse Mobile App (Nysse Mobiili).
- There are also cab services available, such as Taxi Tampere and Uber.
Is there an airline that flies straight to Tampere?
- There is an airport in Tampere-Pirkkala, though due to its smaller size, fewer airlines operate through it.
How do I get from Tampere-Pirkkala airport to Tampere city center?
- The bus line 103 goes from Tampere-Pirkkala airport to the Tampere city center. The line is scheduled according to flight schedules.
- From the airport to Tampere: Bus 103 leaves from Terminal 1 approximately 30 minutes after the arrival of each flight. If the flight is delayed, the bus will wait for passengers within the limits allowed by the bus schedule (maximum 30 minutes).
- From Tampere to the airport: Bus 103 leaves from the center of Tampere around 90 minutes before each flight’s departure. The trip takes about 30 minutes. The schedule of the bus may change due to changes in flight schedules.

How can I buy a bus ticket from Tampere-Pirkkala airport and what does it cost?
- You can use contactless card payment or purchase a mobile ticket using the Nysse Mobile App (Nysse Mobiili). Public transportation fees in the Tampere area are divided into three zones: A, B and C. The airport is in zone C and Tampere in zone A, so choose a zone ABC ticket for your ride.
- Tickets for adults aged 25 and over are 4,70 € with card payment and the Nysse Mobile App. Tickets for people aged 17 to 24 are 4,70 € with card payment, and 3,60 € with the Nysse Mobile App.
