European Short Film Audience Award

Since 2019, ten iconic European film festivals have come together each year to bring audiences around the continent a selection of the best of the best of European shorts. Each year, ten National Audience Award -winning short films from the previous year will tour to compete for the European Short Film Audience Award (ESFAA).

Please note that both screenings are free to attend, but due to limited seating, require a ticket. You can get your tickets in advance free of charge at one of our ticket booths.

The European short film audience award, ESFAA for short, is, as its name suggests, an audience award. The audiences of eight European short film festivals each choose their own favourite from their domestic competition, which is compiled into the following screenings. The audience can vote for their favourite of these films, and it will be awarded this spring at Brussels Film Festival as the joint favourite of all audiences.

In short: The ESFAA screenings feature films chosen by the audiences from eight European countries. These screenings can be described as surprising and diverse for good reason; the selection principles of each festival, the filmmaking tradition of the countries and, above all, the audiences themselves influence the overall selection of films. In other words: Come and be surprised.
