Tampere UG: Screening Panel & Party

Wed 5.3. | Vastavirta-klubi, Pispalan valtatie 37 | 21–02 | Free entry | In Finnish

Tampere UG lives on with a Finnish language panel discussion and short documentary at Vastavirta-Klubi, where the night is closed with a party fitting the theme. The night will open with a few words from Maria Mattila.

The panel discussion brings curator of Tampere UG, Sami Ylipihlaja, together with Jari Tamminen, Elina Alatalo, Riina Lundman and Ilona Kyykoski to discuss underground culture from different viewpoints. What is the relationship between film and the ever-increasing desire for attention and immersive experience brought on by the age of social media? In what ways can underground culture actualize, and in what spaces? And what does underground culture mean for the people actually creating it? A central theme in the discussion will also be the contradictory attitudes that cities have towards culture and activism propagated outside of traditional organisation work: though city officials like promoting the idea of a lively, youthful urban environment, is there really space for autonomous culture work in a controlled city space?

The event will be hosted by researcher of urban development Mikko Kyrönviita from Tampere University. The panel is organised by the research collective Insurgent Spatial Practices and Tampere Urban Research Network for Sustainability from Tampere university.
