Pirjo Honkasalo (b. 1947) is a renowned film director and documentarian both in Finland and abroad. Some of Honkasalo’s most notable works include the internationally acclaimed The 3 Rooms of Melancholia (Finland, 2004) as well as the six-time Jussi Award winning Concrete Night (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, 2013).
In addition to directing, Honkasalo has worked as the board director of AVEK Centre for Advancement of Audiovisual Culture from 1993 to 1999. In 2005 Honkasalo was the recipient of the Pro Finlandia medal, and in 2013 she received an Honorary Doctorate in the Arts from Aalto University. Honkasalo was awarded the title of Arts Academician in 2020.
This event is an opportunity to learn more about Pirjo Honkasalo’s views and experiences regarding directing. In conversation with Honkasalo will be writer and director Reetta Aalto and director Selma Vilhunen.
