When neither a healer or the hospital can help a troubled young girl, the church diagnoses her as being possessed by the devil. 12-year old Tanjuska has been sent from her home in Belarus to a North Estonian convent, where father Vasili exorcises her. Tanjuska's father stays in Estonia to raise his daughter, believing discipline to be the key to her healing. Back in Belarus, Tanjuska's mother says Tanjuska's behaviour changed after a series of events unfolded at her school.
