March 8 is International Women’s Day. Are things better in 2026 than they were in 2019? Force of Habit is an episodic film based on its seven directors’ own experiences and observations about life as a woman, and the “ordinary” situations it entails – the kinds of situations that are rarely talked about, though everyone knows them. These moments come together to paint a picture of a societal and structural issue.
The six episodes of Force of Habit were directed by Reetta Aalto, Alli Haapasalo, Anna Paavilainen, Kirsikka Saari, Elli Toivoniemi, Jenni Toivoniemi and Miia Tervo, and it stars Seidi Haarla, Krista Kosonen and Pirjo Lonka, among others. The film is one of a hundred domestic audience favourites at Yle Teema. The screening is part of Tampere Film Festival’s collaboration with Yle.

Moments from a woman's life that often stay hidden. This seven-director co-creation faces serious issues with biting humour, and highlights a senseless use of power that we've come to consider as normal.
