PITCH the Future!

What does the world look like through the eyes of Finnish filmmakers-to-be? Multilingual, unpolished, and imperfect; rich, cruel, and overwhelming; beautiful, funny, and impressive. Or perhaps something else?

Filmmaking is a language. A dissertation film is a sample. These PITCH screenings have been curated from finished dissertation films awarded in a pitching event for five different Finnish film schools through the years.

Suited for all ages, though at times foul-mouthed and brutally honest, Growing Up is a collection of films depicting the many ways in which we come of age. Visions of Swampland flies high and dives deep with fearless cinematic storytelling and no care for comfort zones.

PITCH is a pitching event for dissertation films organised by Aalto University’s Department of Film and Set Design, Arcada, Metropolia, Tampere University of Applied Sciences and Turku AMK Arts Academy. The event is created in collaboration with the Finnish Film Foundation, YLE and AVEK Audiovisual Centre. A large number of film industry professionals, rental houses, post-production houses and production companies are participating. The goal of the event is to nurture collaboration between film schools, facilitate the forming of work groups between different schools, create a forum for students entering into the professional field and professionals in that field to meet, as well as offer extra resources to dissertation films and scripts with the most promise. The event has been organised since 2019.
