The Star Guest, Ulla Heikkilä, is a Helsinki-based film director and screenwriter, originally born and raised in Tampere. Heikkilä has directed the feature films Eden (2020) and Elämä on juhla (2025), and her short films have been screened at numerous festivals worldwide. Her work primarily focuses on family relationships and group dynamics, and she is also interested in rites of passage, rituals, and celebrations that bring generations together.
At Tampere Film Festival, a retrospective screening of Ulla Heikkilä’s work will be shown, featuring four of her short films. In addition, the programme includes a Carte blanche screening curated by Heikkilä herself, in which she has selected six short films important to her.
