Tampere Film Festival\u2019s International Competition Grand Prix goes to Suzannah Mirghani<\/b>\u2019s fiction film, Al-Sit <\/i>(Sudan, Qatar 2020). The International Jury found the film to be told in a simple but profound way, presenting sincere qualities that seem to come from another time, but touch upon a very modern problem: a conflict between different values \u2013 profit and progress versus tradition. The jury was touched by the way this contemporary fable was cast, acted and envisioned.<\/p>\n
The International Jury consisted of Per Fikse<\/b>, Randa Maroufi<\/b>, Juho Kuosmanen<\/b>, Tristan Priim\u00e4gi <\/b>and Mikaela Westerlund<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Julie Caty<\/b>\u2019s Normal<\/i> (France 2020) won the Best Animation Category Prize and the Best Documentary Category Prize went to Shadows of Your Childhood <\/i>(Russia 2020) by Mikhail Gorobchuk<\/b>. The Best Fiction Category Prize was awarded to Li Yue<\/b>\u2019s A Lucid Dream <\/i>(China 2020) and the Tampere Short Film Candidacy for the European Film Awards 2021 went to Rona Segal<\/b>\u2019s short documentary Mission: Hebron <\/i>(Israel 2020).<\/p>\n
The International Jury also wanted to hand out three Special Mentions, to Henriette Rietz<\/b>\u2019s Wochenbett<\/i> (Germany 2020), Sudarshan Suresh<\/b>\u2019s Mizaru<\/i> (India 2019) and Asma Ghanem<\/b>, Christopher Marianetti<\/b> and Alexia Webster<\/b>\u2019s Wall Piano<\/i> (Palestine 2020). Wall Piano<\/i> also received the Audience Award of the International Competition.
\n<\/b><\/p>\nNational Competition<\/b><\/h2>\n
In the under 30 minutes category of the National Competition of the Festival, the main Prize was awarded to Sawandi Groskind<\/b>\u2019s Where to Land<\/i> (Finland 2020). The film\u2019s cinematographer Karl Henrik Edlund<\/b> won the Golden Shade Equipment Rental Prize (made possible by the Light House and the Camera House). The jury was particularly impressed by the poetic cinematography which masters the light and the shadow \u2013 the basics of cinema. At the same time the images are truly original, highlighting the textures and traveling effortlessly from day to night and from woods to interiors.<\/p>\n
The national Competition Jury consisted of Rimant\u0117 Daug\u0117lait\u0117<\/b>, Hamy Ramezan<\/b> and Kaisu Tervonen<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The Main Prize in the Over 30 Minutes category was awarded to Joonas Neuvonen<\/b> and Sadri Cetinkaya<\/b>\u2019s documentary Lost Boys <\/i>(Finland 2020). The jury found the film to be \u201can intense, emotionally impactful documentary drama, a cinematic adventure deeply involving the viewer into the main character’s world from the very first moment until the end. This is a melancholic story of friendships and of a vacation which turns into chaos and tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The National Competition Special Prize in the under 30 minutes category was handed to Saara Hakkarainen<\/b>\u2018s documentary Hiljaisuus<\/i> (Finland 2020) and Mohamed El Aboud<\/b>\u2019s School of Hope<\/i> (Finland, France, Morocco 2020) won the Special Prize in the over 30 minutes category.<\/p>\n
Marjo Levlin<\/b>\u2019s experimental documentary Ellipsis <\/i>(Finland 2020) received the Risto Jarva Prize and Suvi West<\/b>\u2019s documentary Eatnameamet \u2013 Min jaskes d\u00e1istaleapmi<\/i> (Finland 2021) won the Church Media Foundation Prize as well as the National Competition Audience Award.<\/p>\n
The National Competition Student Award was handed to Marlena Martikainen<\/b>\u2019s Halpoja tahroja <\/i>(Finland 2020). The Youth Jury Prize went to Tatu Pohjavirta<\/b>\u2019s All Tender Things<\/i> (Finland 2020) and Samuel H\u00e4kkinen<\/b> and Henna V\u00e4lkky<\/b>\u2019s P\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6s N:O 30001<\/i> (Finland 2020) received a Youth Jury Special Mention. Pirkanmaan Osuuskauppa, Pirkanmaa Film Centre and Tampere Film Festival held a youth short film workshop at Lielahti upper comprehensive school, and the winning film, the animation Tomaatin mieless\u00e4<\/i> was awarded with the Youth Short Film Workshop Award.<\/p>\nGeneration XYZ and the European Audience Awards<\/b><\/h2>\n
This year, Tampere Film Festival launched the Generation XYZ competition for under 30 minute genre films in collaboration with the American production company XYZ Films. Adrien Jeannot<\/b>\u2019s The Last Men<\/i> (France 2020) won the Best Genre Film Award. The jury also handed out a Special Mention Fanni Szil\u00e1gyi<\/b> and G\u00e1bor Szil\u00e1gy<\/b>\u2019s Tien Shinhan <\/i>(Hungary 2020).<\/p>\n
<\/b>Virpi Suutari<\/b>\u2019s short documentary Kansanradio \u2013 Runonlaulajien maa <\/i>(Finland 2021) was voted as the Tampere Nominee for the European Audience Award (European Short Film Audience Award).<\/p>\n
